Applications Are Now Open for the COSMOS RET Summer Program 2019

Applications are now open for the COSMOS RET Summer Program 2019, a six-week summer program (July 1 to August 9) that will build on the very successful COSMOS RET program of 2018. This summer activity will support 10 NYC teachers. The teachers will be hosted in NYU and Columbia. Through this program, they will have the opportunity to work together with the COSMOS research team on experimental research, defining and executing research experiments on the testbed, evaluating new 5G wireless technologies, conducting real time measurements, running and evaluating smart-cities, Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud applications. Moreover, the teachers will have the opportunity to participate in weekly meetings with other RET teachers in the two universities as well as with innovation hubs in Harlem (via Silicon Harlem), sharing their experiences, exchanging ideas and enhancing their research experience.

Based on the lessons learned, the summer program will have two phases: In phase 1 (2 weeks), the teachers will participate in a training program, where they will learn about the COSMOS technology. During this phase, instructors from the COSMOS team will give lectures to the teachers about Software-Defined Networking (SDN), next generation wireless networking, edge computing, cloud, and IoT. Each lecture will be coupled with a hands-on lab where the teachers will run experiments on the COSMOS testbed. In phase 2 (4 weeks), the teachers, together with the COSMOS team will jointly build innovative real-world experiments that will be organized as automated and repeatable science labs.

Interested teachers can apply to Columbia or apply to NYU.
